Make Your Own Wedding Rings

Carve your wedding rings yourselves, at home. Send the wax back to our London studio and we cast them in sterling silver or gold vermeil.

No experience needed. Most couples have never carved anything before.

How it works

  • Your kit arrives with wax, carving tools and a prepaid return envelope.

  • You each carve a ring. Most people spend an evening on it.

  • Post both back in the same envelope.

  • We cast them, polish them and post them back.

What you get

Band kit: 4 wax ring starters, 2 full sets of carving tools, instruction sheet, prepaid return envelope.

Fingerprint kit: 4 pre-shaped wax moulds, ring sizer, instruction sheet, prepaid return envelope.

Two of the four waxes are spares. You will probably use them.

Getting the size right

A wedding ring is worn every day, so the fit matters more than on any other ring.

You size the wax blanks to your finger using the tools provided so you won't get the size wrong. Rings shrink slightly when they are cast, and wider bands sit tighter on the finger.

Matching or different

Both rings use the same kit, so either two carved bands or two fingerprint rings. Within that, they can be completely different designs, widths and sizes.

Some couples carve matching rings. Some carve each other's. Some press their partner's fingerprint into their own ring, so each of you wears the other's.

Silver or gold

Sterling silver (925), or gold vermeil, which is sterling silver with a layer of 18ct gold. Both are cast from recycled metal.

Worth knowing: gold plating wears gradually on a ring you never take off. It can be replated when it needs it.

How long it takes

Four weeks from when your wax reaches us. Add two weeks for gold vermeil.

Allow at least twelve weeks before the wedding. That covers the kit arriving, an unhurried evening of carving, post in both directions, and time for another go if you want one.

On a tight timeline? Message us before you order.

What if it goes wrong

It will, a bit. That is what the spare wax is for.

Wax can be smoothed, warmed and rebuilt. If a design is not working, start again on a fresh blank.

Before you post it, send us a photo. We will tell you honestly how it will cast.

Have something in mind? Email us hello@castknucklestudio.com and we will get back to you on the day.
